Erica Conti – Deposizione

In questa rilettura della Deposizione, Erica Conti si confronta con la tradizione rinascimentale mettendo in primo piano la gestualità e il linguaggio delle mani, così presenti nelle opere del Beato Angelico. Le figure sembrano emergere dall’ombra attraverso il tocco reciproco, in un intreccio di corpi che sostiene e accompagna la discesa.

Qui, però, l’artista si allontana dalla purezza angelicana: la tavolozza si fa più scura, la luce più concentrata, in un’atmosfera che ricorda Rembrandt. La scena diventa così un luogo di materia e di peso, dove il corpo è al tempo stesso terreno e spirituale.

In this reinterpretation of the Deposition, Erica Conti engages with Renaissance tradition by foregrounding gesture and the expressive language of hands, so present in the works of Fra Angelico. The figures seem to emerge from darkness through mutual touch, their bodies interwoven in an act of descent and support.

Here, however, the artist moves away from Angelico’s purity: the palette darkens, the light grows denser — an atmosphere closer to Rembrandt than to Florence. The scene becomes a space of matter and gravity, where the body is both earthly and spiritual.
