Evdokia Nechiporenko – Self surveillance blue

Evdokia Nechiporenko presents two oil paintings dedicated to anorexia. One of the few enticing, and to a certain degree, even desired illnesses, due to its deceiving association with a beautiful, thin body.

The initial journey, which can be described as a “fun challenge” for the sad sake of being loved, quickly fades into a never-ending and aimless pursuit of perfection. The ultimate goal becomes so ambiguous and deeply ingrained into one’s head, that one cannot see beyond the own skin – or, better said, ribs and clavicles. The incentive to lose weight becomes a need, a natural state of being, and the ultimate bleak goal in life, which once reached, will not bring fulfillment.

The desired outcome, which was supposed to bring happiness through beauty, attraction, charm and sexuality, dies hand in hand with the decreasing kilograms and escalates into a meticulous self-surveillance and obsession. Frequently resulting in the end of oneself.
